Lepidotes

Science Name

Ptychococcus lepidotus

Description

Habitat

Its upper jaw bones were compact and untied of their connection to the cheek bones, which they had previously been combined. This new mobility permitted the mouth to be shaped into a tube, and prey could be sucked from a distance toward the fish, rather than engulfed at close digs as early fishes had done.
