Myrtoan Sea
The Myrtoan (Mirtoan) Sea is a part of the Mediterranean Sea that is located between the Cyclades and the Peloponnesos. The Saronic Gulf (the gulf of Athens) lies in the middle of Corinth Canal and the Myrtoan Sea.
Naming
It is named after the mythological hero Myrtilus, who was thrown into this sea by a furious Pelops. The name has also been related with the maiden Myrto. The name is also said to be derived from a small island called Myrtus.
