DESCRIPTION
The killer whale is a toothed whale which belongs to the oceanic dolphin family. It is based on a largest member. Killer whales have a sundry diet.
DIET
Killer whales are peak predators, at the top of the food chain. No other animals hunt orcas. Their diet mainly consists of squid, sea birds, octopuses, sea turtles, sharks, fishes and rays. They also consume marine mammals such as dugongs and seals.
Behaviour
These whales are social animals that travel in groups named pods. Pods usually consists of 5 to 30 whales. Some pods combines to form a group of 100.
Habitat
Killer whales from offshore range from the Southern California to Bering Sea. It has been spotted in both coastal habitats and oceans. Eastern tropical Pacific killer whales are spotted in offshore and range from Mexican waters of the Pacific and Gulf of California to Southern California.
Location or Region Found
They seem to be most plentiful in coastal waters when they found in the open oceans . Killer whales are copious in the Pacific Northwest, along the northern coast in the Atlantic and in the higher latitudes of the Southern Ocean.
